First wedding of the year... lovely!

So what was I doing last weekend while my hubby installed our lovely dishwasher?

I was second shooting a wedding with Kelly Powers, who is an absolute sweetheart! Kelly and I met at a pro photography seminar with Jen Kroll (who shot my wedding!) and John Pottenger back in October. I had the chance to shoot backup for Kelly, and we had a blast! Christy and Brad were absolutely wonderful – warm, genuine, and tons of fun, not to mention their amazing families and bridal party. This was one of those brilliant weddings where you feel privileged just to be there. And I love second shooting - the chance to be purely photojournalistic and capture what is happening, and give the main photographer a sounding board for ideas and an extra hand. So thank you Kelly - this was wonderful.

Without further ado, a few pictures!

Apparently Boggle is a hugely popular pasttime for Brad & Christy...

I love this one... the little flower girl peeking while Christy & Brad had their first moment together.

What a great moment - the three flower girls dancing in their lovely dresses! So cute.

Christy with Sue, a very important lady in the bride's life who graciously lent her house for photos and general pre-wedding chaos!

Then we headed to the Blue Bridge in downtown Grand Rapids for some fun photos. The ladies were such troopers - it was sunny, but with a bitterly cold wind!

What a fun group!

While taking pictures of the girls, I happened to turn around and see this... no one can resist a cute baby!

This was really beautiful - everyone lit candles during the ceremony and held them up for the bride & groom to see.

I love this ring shot. While the reception venue was lacking in creative places to do ring shots, it did have gorgeous reflective tables in the lobby.

One of the most entertaining weddings I've ever been to - the siblings of the bride & groom had re-worded popular songs to tell Christy & Brad's story. They were so clever, and boy could they sing!

Another favorite ring shot, this one on top of a lamp.

Joy. Sweet joy.

Ah yes, joy of joys…

I’d like to welcome the newest member of the Blackmer household… our lovely cleaner of dishes, our little Whirlpool of happiness.

Yes, you are seeing correctly. I just posted a picture of a dishwasher. That is how much I love it.

Now, you might think, “how many dishes can two people possibly create? Do they need a dishwasher?” Oh my, let me tell you, we do. I create amazing messes when I cook. I am effective, but not terribly efficient. My darling husband typically does the dishes, with my drying assistance. So last weekend, my sweet man spent Saturday installing a dishwasher in our tiny kitchen, which did involve tearing out some precious cabinet real estate. I think future owners of our home will appreciate the addition. I certainly will! Especially once we have a baby, I think the auto suds will come in quite handy. So thanks, dear hubby.

My next post will cover what I was doing while my hubby was being so helpful...
